Online Fieldtrip By Nikki Kristelle Hugo
“Online
Fieldtrip”
The Faculty teachers of SVDPC together with the principal went to Maragondon, Cavite to tour us and to still have a fieldtrip through online. One of the southernmost towns of Cavite, Maragondon is one of the towns where you can feel that you’re indeed in the province. The field trip of Saint Vincent De Paul college happened in the same province where it was located, Cavite, however it took place in a different town, Maragondon. We we’re able to see the scenery and learn the history behind the Andres Bonifacio Shrine and Eco-tourism Park, and Bonifacia Trial House. The places where our hero, Andres Bonifacio was trialed and executed.
Andres Bonifacio Shrine and Eco-tourism Park is located near Mt. Nagpatong, one of the mountains in Maragondon. This is where Andres Bonifacio and his brothers Procopio were killed, or more specifically, executed in the year 1897. They were brought to Mt. Nagpatong, where their sentence was carried out. Years later, the colonial government searched for the remains of Bonifacio, and was able to find the bones on March 17,1918. During the Second World War due to the destruction and looting the bones were lost never to be found again.
The Andres Bonifacio shrine stands on the area of Mt. Nagpatong where Bonifacio’s bones were said to have been found. There are two panels that is flanking it with the words KKK and BAYANI. In those panels you can see the beautiful artistic sculptures that tells us the story of Bonifacio’s struggles and their last moment before the execution.
The field trip may not be as enjoyable as the others before but it still gives us the knowledge about the history of the Philippines. Andres Bonifacio’s death and the motivating factor that triggered the revolution and brought freedom from colonial Spain.
